Anania & Associates Investment Company LLC (AAI) today announced its portfolio company Microwave Techniques, LLC acquired of the assets and IP of North Carolina based Industrial Microwave Systems (IMS), LLC, from Laitram, LLC.
Microwave Techniques, LLC is the parent company of both Maine based Mega Industries (MEGA), and New Hampshire based Ferrite Microwave Technologies (FMT). MEGA focuses on high-power microwave components for the scientific, radar, medical, and broadcast industries, while FMT focuses on large scale microwave systems for industrial settings such as food cooking, plasma processing, chemicals treatment, and materials processing. FMT is also the leading global provider of high-power microwave circulators.
Both Microwave brands (FMT and MEGA) have several legacy high-power component product lines including: rigid and flexible waveguides, isolators, loads, windows, tuners, transitions, and more. Often times, MEGA and FMT components integrate into full-scale microwave systems such as Ferrite’s and IMS’s.
A Global Leader in Industrial Microwave Systems
The merging of the brands, IP, and products related to IMS’s single mode continuous fluid and solid processing systems, and FMT’s multi mode batch and continuous tempering and drying systems into the Microwave Techniques portfolio offers customers a one stop source for lab-scale and commercial-scale microwave systems covering:
Tempering | Drying | Heating | Cooking
Bonding | Cracking | Curing | Reacting | Sterilizing
Belt & Continuous | Batch Ovens | Fluid & Slurry Heating
Lab Systems | Single-Mode | Multi-Mode
Transmitters | Generators | Circulators
Power Combiners | Magnetron Tubes

About Industrial Microwave Systems, LLC
Industrial Microwave Systems (IMS), now a Microwave Techniques company, is a leading designer of innovative, patented microwave systems for continuous flow processes that require rapid and uniform heating and drying.
IMS offers lab solutions at 2450 MHz, and production systems at 915 MHz. The product support delivered by IMS reaches wide variety of industries, including chemicals, food processing, liquid heating, industrial products, nonwovens, textiles, as well as mining. Furthermore, IMS is the original developer and leading provider of fluid and slurry microwave heating systems.
About Ferrite Microwave Technologies
Ferrite Microwave Technologies (FMT), a Microwave Techniques company, has two product divisions. The components division focuses on circulators & isolators, as well as other legacy FMT microwave devices.
The systems group designs and manufactures continuous microwave tempering tunnels, batch cooking ovens, and industrial heating and drying systems. In addition to standalone microwave generators to power its systems, the FMT systems group uniquely offers replacement parts (such as magnetron tubes), as well as on-site service and maintenance repairs to its thousands of customers across the globe.
Growth & Recent Activity
The two long-time leading microwave systems brands (FMT & IMS) are recognized worldwide for innovative and robust designs and reliability. The group is also moving into a new and larger facility this fall to support IMS production and FMT’s continued growth.
“We are excited to add IMS’s team and innovated portfolio of patented products into the group,” said Scott Knoll, partner at AAI and the Microwave Techniques ownership group. “We have always seen strong demand for fluid-based microwave systems so adding IMS’s patented fluid applicator unit is highly strategic and combining with our rapidly growing components business we can now offer all segments of the high power microwave industry a one stop shop for components, systems and specialized microwave design services.”
Deal terms have not been announced. The combined company will continue to use the various brand names (MT, MEGA, FMT, IMS, MCi and FXR). Microwave Techniques employs nearly 100 people with over 100,000 SF of production capacity across the multiple facilities in Maine, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.
Microwave Techniques is currently hiring to support its growth and recent activity.
